August Group Hike
Saturday, August 26th at 10am
This will be our most interesting and unusual hike so far: up to and through the old railroad sheds near the Donner Summit, off of old Route 40 (the old Lincoln Highway). The Donner Summit Historical Society has many informational plaques throughout the area.
The hike itself is level and only about 2 miles long but it can be a jumping-off place for many explorations in the area. Highlights of the hike include watching the many rock climbers rappelling up and down the “China wall of the Sierra,” all of the artwork lining the walls of the sheds, and the beautiful views of Donner Lake and Mt Castle Peak.
We will hike on Saturday August 26. Call me, Polly (775.329.0128) if you want to carpool. Otherwise, take I-80 to the Donner Lake exit, go along the lake until the road starts to climb. From there, it is about 2.5 miles farther to the trailhead to the sheds, which are on the left. We will meet there at 10 am.
